Players Trust DREAM Weekend

In honor of Martin Luther King Weekend 2020, the Players Trust hosted the Players Trust DREAM Weekend, bringing a series of free baseball camps to underserved youth across Mississippi. The Players Trust hosted camps in Perkinston, Hattiesburg and Jackson; each camp hosting 200 children ranging from ages 6-18. All participants had the opportunity to spend time with professional athlete mentors, engage in inspiring conversations and learn foundational baseball skills. Spearheaded by Curtis Granderson, other players, including active and former, participated in the weekend’s bill of events.

Colombia Goodwill Tour

In December 2019, the Major League Baseball Players Trust embarked on a goodwill tour in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy in Colombia and Project Beisbol that included baseball clinics in the cities of Cartagena and Barranquilla for Colombian and Venezuelan youth as well as visiting a local community center in Barranquilla and making equipment donations throughout the country. Participating Major Leaguers featured Jose Altuve, Nick Burdi, Carlos Carrasco, Francisco Cervelli, Eduardo Escobar, Tayron Guerrero, Felix Hernandez, David Peralta, Jose Quintana, Wilson Ramos, Harold Ramirez, Eduardo Rodriguez, Adrian Sanchez, Anthony Santander, Julio Teheran, Gio Urshela as well as former Player and local Colombian, Edgar Renteria.

Sports Envoy Program

The Players Trust continued its partnership with the U.S. State Department’s, “Sports Envoy Program” for the 3rd year in a row. The Sports Envoy Program gives players the opportunity to grow the game internationally by hosting youth baseball clinics and events. This year’s global events and player participants included:

Players Trust All-Star Weekend

During All Star Week, the Players Trust put on clinics for both kids and coaches. This event marked the inaugural All-Star Youth Development Weekend, hosted by former players who want to give back and share their knowledge of the game. The Players Trust first hosted a coaches clinic for local Washington D.C. area youth coaches. This was followed by a panel discussion on the state of youth baseball development. The following day, the Players Trust hosted 60 girls and boys ages 8-12 to participate in a youth clinic at St. Albans’ baseball field.
