In December 2019, the Major League Baseball Players Trust embarked on a goodwill tour in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy in Colombia and Project Beisbol that included baseball clinics in the cities of Cartagena and Barranquilla for Colombian and Venezuelan youth as well as visiting a local community center in Barranquilla. Participating Major Leaguers featured Jose Altuve, Nick Burdi, Carlos Carrasco, Francisco Cervelli, Eduardo Escobar, Tayron Guerrero, Felix Hernandez, David Peralta, Jose Quintana, Wilson Ramos, Harold Ramirez, Eduardo Rodriguez, Adrian Sanchez, Anthony Santander, Julio Teheran, Gio Urshela as well as former Player and local Colombian, Edgar Renteria.
In addition to the goodwill tour, the Major League Baseball Players Trust made a donation of $150,000 to partner, Project Beisbol, which included equipment donations that benefit over 600 underserved youth on the coast of Colombia as well as equipment donations in the capital of Bogota, Colombia.
Project Béisbol is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to developing sustainable baseball and softball programs for boys and girls in vulnerable communities. They support teams, charities and schools with equipment donations, high quality instruction, exchange programs, educational workshops and leadership programs with the goal of empowering young leaders and fomenting positive social change on the local level throughout Latin America.
