Since 2006, the Players Trust has partnered with Esperanza International in the Dominican Republic to provide loans to women so they can start their own businesses. This micro-finance program enables women to develop financial independence, which serves as a means to lift their families out of poverty. |
The Players Trust has donated more than $720,000 to support Esperanza International’s micro-finance efforts in the Dominican Republic as well as in Haiti. The program is self-sustaining because the low-interest loans are repaid at a rate of 99.96%, and the funds are re-loaned to additional participants. Borrowers also attend mandatory bi-weekly group meetings, where they learn business management strategies and develop sound business plans and practices. The combination of loans and education enables women to secure their own stable futures and gives them the power to create businesses and opportunities that will provide financial stability and growth in their communities for years to come.
