Players Trust and KaBOOM! build playground in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, July 5 – The Major League Baseball Players Trust and KaBOOM! have teamed up for the third consecutive year to build a playground in the All-Star city.

Following successful playground projects in Miami and Washington, D.C., the Players Trust selected Constellations Schools Old Brooklyn Community Elementary for the site for a new playground in Cleveland, where a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

“This is a wonderful way to demonstrate our players’ commitment to affording kids an opportunity to play and enjoy their childhood in a safe environment,” said Leonor Colon, the Major League Baseball Players Association’s Senior Director of International and Domestic Player Operations.  “We are hopeful this will positively impact this community for many years to come.”

On May 16, Carlos Santana, Jake Bauers, Dan Otero, and Mike Freeman joined students in Design Day with students from the elementary school to design the “perfect” playground.  The players conversed with the kids about the importance of going out to play and reflected on playing in playgrounds where they grew up.

On June 22, parents, teachers, students and community volunteers, along with Kaboom staff, gathered to build the playground for the community to enjoy.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature ice cream trucks, bouncy house and a balloon artist for the kids in attendance to enjoy before the ribbon-cutting at 11:30 am.

An academic pillar in the Old Brooklyn Neighborhood since 1998, OBCE is committed to not only providing students with an outstanding education, but also creating a strong community bond with families, neighbors and partner organizations.
