NEW YORK, Dec. 8, 2019 — The Major Leagues Baseball Players Trust today announced a Players Goodwill Tour of Colombia. The tour will mark the Trust’s first visit to the country. Events will take place from December 10–13, 2019, in three different cities.
The goodwill tour will include baseball clinics for Colombian and Venezuelan youth organized in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy in Colombia and Project Beísbol in Cartagena and Barranquilla, as well as the inauguration of a baseball field in Bogotá. They’ll also attend a formal reception in the capital city Bogotá hosted by the US Ambassador, Philip S. Goldberg.
The Major League players that will participate in all or part of the Goodwill tour will include; José Quintana, Julio Teheran, Tayron Guerrero, José Altuve, Marwin González, Félix Hernandez, Francisco Cervelli, Sandy León, Wilson Ramos, Carlos Carrasco, Eduardo Rodríguez, Eduardo Escobar, David Peralta, Nick Burdi, former player Edgar Renteria and additional players who will join along the way.
The Major League Baseball Players Association will be represented by Executive Director and former Major League player Tony Clark, Senior Director of Player Operations Leonor Colon and Player Operations Manager Vickie Carballo, as well as former Major League players Javy Vazquez and Jose Cruz.
The tour will consist of a donation to Project Beísbol that will include equipment donations that will benefit over 600 kids in Colombia; along with a donation to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support their efforts assisting Latin American countries hosting the vast majority of Venezuelans who have fled their country.
